This is a strong discussion about language and the current political cultural scene in the United States today. It attempts to digest what has happened culturally since Trump was elected and explores the many ways in which Trump’s methods mirror past authoritarians approach to managing public opinion. The two panelists are Masha Gessen and Siri Hustvedt, moderated by Professor Ulrich Baer. The discussion took place at the Deutsches Haus at NYU on December 12, 2017. Masha Gessen is an American and Russian journalist perhaps the top journalist in American and Russian current history. Siri Hustvedt is an American writer and educator in both literature and psychology/psychiatry; she is a leading scholar whom brings together the world of art with the world of psychology.
